Devastated by the loss of her mother to lung cancer in 2008, Jenny Lauren slowly found healing in nature by the beaches of Sag Harbor and by beading as a meditative exercise. The dutzi workshop is a place of empowerment for women in Valladolid, Yucatan. Ariane Dutzi, designer and founder of dutzi design, inc., partners with the local women and teaches them the basics of entrepreneurship, nurtures their skill and talent, and empowers them to be independent and self-sufficient. All bags are designed by Ariane Dutzi and incorporate ancient techniques of the Mayan culture. Bags are handmade by local artisans and are created from handpicked vintage burlap and recycled materials.
